Bringing a New Life to a Family Home

In their early 30s, this couple purchased a family bungalow rich in history, having been passed down from generation to generation. While the home held many cherished memories, the couple sought to refresh its look with a modern, open-concept design. By removing walls between the kitchen, living, and dining areas, the home was reimagined as a bright, airy, and contemporary space. Despite some structural challenges during the renovation, creative solutions were found, including adjustments to the kitchen layout, ensuring both style and functionality were maintained.

Smart Solutions for a Stylish Kitchen

The kitchen space, reduced by nine inches due to structural constraints, called for a rethinking of the original design. The double apron sink was transformed into a single, and appliance placements were rearranged to optimize the space. White shaker-style cabinets were selected to match the built-in closet, creating a cohesive look throughout. Black accents, including cabinet handles, grout lines, and light fixtures, added a sleek, modern touch. The wooden barn door and dining table further enhanced the warm, rustic elements that balanced the home’s contemporary aesthetic.

Modern Features with Pet-Friendly Touches

For this couple with two dogs, ease of maintenance was essential, so vinyl flooring was installed throughout the home. Small yet impactful design details, such as a barn door and contemporary light fixtures, helped elevate the overall look. On the opposite side of the room, a custom-built media unit added storage and balance to the space. The blend of modern and rustic elements, including black quartz countertops and wood accents, gave the home a fresh, contemporary feel while maintaining a sense of character and warmth.
