We recently had the privilege of working with a wonderful family in the Mississauga area. The couple was busy juggling their careers along with the joys and challenges of raising two young boys. We were able to come in and help transform their home into a haven that provides both the functionality and style they need. The structure better fits their personalities and will grow with them over time.

A House in Need of a Helping Hand
The kitchen was the heart of the home for this family, much like in most houses. However, the lack of storage and organization issues left the space feeling dated and cramped. It lacked the inspirational design and ease of access that the family needed for daily meal prep. Entertaining was also a logistical nightmare due to the layout. It just wasn’t living up to their needs.
In the laundry room, there were similar problems. The room was cramped and inefficient. That simply won’t work for a growing family with two boys who need a steady supply of clean clothes to get dirty again. While this space is often overlooked in many homes, our clients knew they needed to make some real updates to it. Open layouts are often preferred for other rooms in the home, but this was one space that needed to be closed off from the rest of the home. It lacked proper storage and left washing machine noises echoing through the living room area. Our clients knew they needed some major updates and upgrades to this part of the home to make it more functional, not to mention more stylish.
Adding to the chaos was a total lack of dedicated office space. It was a major challenge for our clients to work from home, leaving them struggling to make use of shared spaces that just didn’t offer the right environment. There was a makeshift office space squeezed into the busy dining room, while another area was relegated to the basement. Fixing this was a major priority for the family.
Overcoming Renovation Worries and Committing to a Plan
This was the family’s first experience with a major renovation like this one. They were understandably apprehensive to the concept, but they also knew that their home wasn’t meeting their needs. Renovating made much more sense than trying to move to a whole new home. Finding a trustworthy contractor, ensuring timely completion, and concerns about the quality of the workmanship were all issues for them. We showed up just in time to complete the project even with the holidays looming.

Turning Challenges into Solutions with Sosna
We understood our anxieties, which are common to many of the clients we work with after the negative experiences they’ve had with other companies. We were determined to provide the smooth and stress-free experience they wanted. Our team got to work as soon as they contacted us, crafting a complete interior design that addressed all of their concerns. We reimagined the entire laundry room, suggesting a custom storage solution that can adapt and grow as the family does. We also incorporated a stackable washer and dryer set that makes the most of the small space.
The open hallway connecting the living room and the laundry room was closed off and transformed into a spacious closet instead. This added valuable hanging and shelving space for organizing the home. This created a seamless connection between the kitchen and the laundry room, simplifying what has once been a dreaded haul for bringing in the groceries. At the same time, the living room became quieter thanks to the muffling effect of adding the storage space.
There was a small juliette balcony overlooking the living room that just didn’t add enough value to the space. This was where we added the necessary office space, creating a peaceful and productive environment for our clients to work from home.
Finally, we tackled the ensuite bathroom. It was a cluttered and frankly dated space when we arrived. Our design transformed it into a luxurious spa-like environment that also had plenty of practical features for busy professionals. The clever pull-out storage system we installed in the shower wall, along with the spacious built-in niche, ensured that products don’t have to clutter the space any longer. The space is now organized, sleek, and ready for years to come of the family’s daily routine.

Dealing with Unexpected Project Hiccups
Every renovation has its challenges, but this project went remarkably smoothly. There’s simply no way to entirely predict what we’ll find when we start opening up the structure and making changes to it. On this renovation, we discovered that the basement would need a little extra structural work to support the weight of the new office space above. Our experienced team handled this change swiftly and efficiently to stay on schedule so our clients could continue with their holiday plans.
A True Transformation for a Home Reimagined
The end result of this project was a home that truly reflected every part of the family’s combined personality. The space is now perfect for their busy lifestyle, allowing the kids and parents alike to cook together in a newly revived kitchen space. The laundry room is organized and cheerful, with soft green cabinets, patterned floor tiles, and gold accents that are all a testament to our team’s attention to detail. Every little thing is perfect for a growing family that doesn’t want to renovate every year just to stay on top of the trends.

The Kitchen: A Showstopper of Style and Function
The new kitchen design is a showstopper thanks to the striking combination of blue and white cabinets with dark hardwood floors. The contrast continues with the sleek white back splash outfitted in a timeless geometric tile. We added an adjacent beverage bar, fitted with luxurious glass-fronted upper cabinets, to create a sophisticated adult space perfect for entertaining friends. Yet the rest of the kitchen is still a practical space for daily meal prep as well, with plenty of details that keep it easy to clean.

The Ensuite: A Spa-Like Retreat
For the ensuite bathroom, we created a spa-like atmosphere that makes it a retreat our clients can enjoy at the beginning and end of every day. The large-format marble tiles provide a modern look that will remain stylish for years to come, while the black vanity and chrome fixtures provide an atmosphere of understated elegance.
Life with a Home That Works for Everyone
This renovation has truly transformed the family’s daily life. Abundant new storage has banished clutter throughout the home, making it surprisingly easy to stay organized – a rare feat with young children! The new, seamless flow between the kitchen and laundry room has simplified chores like bringing in groceries. And our clients are thrilled with their dedicated office spaces, thoughtfully designed to provide productive and peaceful work-from-home environments. No more makeshift offices squeezed into shared spaces! This renovation has eliminated stress and brought joy to their daily routines.
While this project involved a major physical transformation for the structure, it meant a lot more thanks to the shared moments and laughter that made this project truly special. The good humor and enthusiasm of the entire family were infectious. One of our clients was even happy to star in a walk-through video of the finished project, showcasing his joy with the results.
From choosing the new tiles to navigating unexpected challenges, the entire process was filled with warmth and collaboration with the family. Even their four-year-old son warmed up to our site leader Gus. He nicknamed him “Gus the Bus”, a name that stuck with the whole team throughout the project.
