At Sosna, we take pride in helping families turn their homes into spaces that support the way they live—not just today, but for years to come. Our latest renovation was for a young married couple with two small boys and a cat, who had a clear vision: to finally make their home feel complete, comfortable, and functional.
From the beginning, this family knew they would eventually renovate. What held them back was not the decision itself, but the uncertainty around who to trust with such an important project. Their biggest concern was hiring the wrong contractor—someone unreliable or not aligned with their needs. When they reached out to us, they were ready to move forward, but wanted to feel confident in the process and the people behind it.

A Space That Wasn’t Working
Two major areas stood out as needing change: the master ensuite and the loft-style master bedroom.
In the ensuite, the layout simply didn’t make sense for the way they lived. A large, unused deck-mount tub took up half the room, while the existing shower was so cramped and dim it went almost completely unused. What should have been a private retreat had become a space used only for quick tasks—hardly a reflection of the home they imagined.
Upstairs, the open loft bedroom lacked a proper enclosure, making privacy a daily challenge—especially with two young children in the home.

A Thoughtful Plan, Designed Around Real Life
We worked closely with the family to completely reimagine these key spaces. In the master ensuite, we relocated the three main zones to create a layout that feels open, usable, and comfortable:
- The oversized tub was removed to make space for a large walk-in shower, custom-fit to the room’s angled ceilings.
- The old, cramped shower area became the new home for a beautiful prefabricated solid wood vanity with a quartz countertop.
- A mix of handmade-look blue subway tiles, cream porcelain floor tiles, and brushed nickel fixtures brought the perfect balance of calm and character.
- A custom frameless shower glass enclosure and an electric towel warmer added both function and comfort.
In the loft bedroom, we built a new half wall with a proper door, giving the couple much-needed privacy while preserving the open feel of their home. The staircase leading to the loft was also updated with new oak treads and a matching handrail, seamlessly stained and finished to match the existing flooring.

Challenges—and Creative Solutions
No renovation is without its surprises. One of the trickiest aspects was working with the angled ceilings in the ensuite, which made tiling and installing the shower glass more complex. But with careful planning and experienced hands, we made it work—beautifully.
A particularly memorable moment came during the design phase, when we improvised with the couple’s own furniture—using stools, a table, and even their piano—to simulate the new layout of the ensuite. This helped them visualize how much space they’d have between key fixtures, ensuring they felt confident and comfortable with the plan.
A Space That Now Works—And Feels Like Theirs
The renovation was completed in just under six weeks. Today, the master ensuite is no longer an afterthought—it’s a bright, welcoming 3-piece bathroom that reflects the family’s style and truly serves their daily needs. The bedroom now feels like a private sanctuary, with clear boundaries and a thoughtful flow.
Most importantly, this family can now fully enjoy the spaces that once frustrated them. Their home feels more complete, more personal—and more theirs.
