Kitchen, Office, and Bathroom Remodel in Vaughan
This Vaughan family was ready for a change. Their home, once perfect for their needs, no longer served their family. Cramped spaces, a lack of storage, and no dedicated workspace were causing daily frustrations. Even their shared love of birdwatching – a passion sparked by their neighbour’s impressive ability to attract various species – was becoming difficult to enjoy in their cluttered home. They dreamed of a home that was both functional and beautiful, a place where their family could thrive and their appreciation for nature could flourish. That’s where Sosna came in.

Identifying the Challenges
When they contacted Sosna, they described a home that felt more like an obstacle course than a sanctuary. The entryway was a constant bottleneck, especially when multiple people arrived at once or when bringing in groceries. The shared bathroom was too small for their teenage children and lacked the necessary storage for their belongings. And with both parents working from home, the lack of a dedicated office space made it difficult to focus and be productive.
They told us that they love to spend time together as a family, but that their home just wasn’t designed for the way they live now.
The Sosna Design Approach
One of our expert designers, Chantal, collaborated closely with the clients to create a plan that addressed every concern. Our clients were fantastic at communicating their style and needs, which made it much easier to design a renovation that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing. This collaborative approach allowed us to truly understand their vision and create a space that would not only meet their practical needs but also reflect their personality and passions.
During the initial consultation, we delved into the family’s lifestyle, their daily routines, and their long-term goals for their home. We discussed how they used each space, what frustrated them, and what they envisioned for the future. This in-depth conversation allowed us to identify key areas for improvement and develop a design that would truly transform their lives.

Bringing our Client’s Vision to Life
Creating a Flowing, Functional Space
Walls came down, merging the kitchen and dining room into a light-filled gathering space perfect for family time and, of course, birdwatching. One of the biggest challenges was maximising the existing space to give them everything they needed within the home’s footprint. This involved some clever reconfiguration. By removing the wall and repurposing the underutilised formal dining area, we were able to create a spacious kitchen that truly met the family’s needs. The new custom kitchen boasts dark cabinetry with wood accents, complemented by a beautiful quartz countertop with matching black fixtures. Elegant light fixtures accent the space and add personality to the room.
To further enhance the open concept living area, we installed large windows that flood the space with natural light and offer stunning views of the backyard, creating a seamless connection with the outdoors, allowing the family to fully appreciate the beauty of nature – including the diverse birdlife attracted to the backyard.

A Dedicated Workspace for Productivity
No more makeshift workspaces! We carved out a dedicated office, complete with built-in cabinetry for organisation and ample natural light to inspire productivity. We initially envisioned a pocket or barn door for the office, but during demolition, we discovered that the existing framing wouldn’t accommodate it. Ever adaptable, we pivoted to a stylish swing door that still achieved the desired look and functionality without compromising the design.
The new office space provides a quiet and comfortable environment for both parents to work from home. With ample storage and a well-designed layout, the office promotes focus and efficiency, allowing them to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

The shared bathroom was expanded and reconfigured to provide much-needed personal space for the teenagers, while the master ensuite became a luxurious retreat. In the shared bathroom, we utilised space from the guest bedroom closet and the second-floor office, replacing the bathtub shower combo with a spacious grand shower and adding a large vanity and makeup area, giving each teenager their own dedicated personal storage space.
In the master ensuite, we altered the entryway location, allowing for a redesigned layout that included a large vanity and double sink, enhancing both functionality and storage.
Both bathrooms feature high-quality fixtures and finishes, creating a spa-like atmosphere that promotes relaxation and rejuvenation. The expanded shower in the shared bathroom provides ample space for the teenagers, while the redesigned master ensuite offers a tranquil escape for the parents.
Exceeding Expectations
From our clients: “We were amazed by how Sosna understood our vision and brought it to life. The team was incredibly professional and respectful throughout the entire process.”
They were particularly impressed with how clean the construction area was kept and the team’s consideration for their neighbours. The project was completed on time, and the final results exceeded their expectations.
The family now enjoys a home that is both beautiful and functional, a space that truly reflects their personality and supports their lifestyle. The open concept living area has become the heart of the home, a place where they can gather, connect, and appreciate the beauty of the natural world.
