This well-loved 1960’s split-level home in Mississauga was in need of an entire home remodel, both in terms of interior design and function.
Split-level homes are set up with staggered floor levels, with each level partially set above or below the adjacent level.
Our clients wanted an open-concept layout for their Lower-Level and Main Floor spaces. This was no easy feat, given that the Kitchen and Family Room on the lower level were closed off from the rest of the home. But we rose to the challenge!
The original Kitchen layout was cramped, and lacked sufficient storage and counter space. The Kitchen cabinets were outdated and deteriorating.
The original Family Room had a rarely used, bulky stone-clad wood-burning fireplace and hearth that consumed valuable space. The room appeared dim due to dark paint wainscoting, outdated wallpaper, and awkward center lights.
The flooring throughout the home was worn and consisted of a mix of hardwood and tile. A pesky squeaking noise in the upper-level hallway was also an issue that needed to be addressed.
The stairs were outdated, and the railing along the upper-level hallway did not meet current safety standards, posing a potential risk to the home’s inhabitants.
Our team of skilled renovation professionals took on this challenging project with enthusiasm. We began by collaborating closely with the homeowners and our team of talented designers to brainstorm design ideas that would bring their dream Kitchen to life.
We then worked diligently with our trusted contractors to complete the project by enlarging entryways to provide a more open and airy space. New custom Kitchen cabinetry, along with quartz countertops and backsplash increased storage and countertop space.
In the Family Room, large format porcelain tiles accommodating a new electric fireplace provided a quiet and comfortable sitting area.
New oak treads and handrails, along with black metal pickets on all stairways, along with new engineered hardwood flooring throughout the Main Floor tied the space together.
Our clients are thrilled to have a bright, updated kitchen that is open and connected to the rest of the space. The open and inviting family room adds both function and value to the home, making it unmistakably theirs. The combination of these two areas provides a sense of comfort and convenience that our clients have come to expect. They have been delighted with the transformation and can now enjoy their home with a newfound sense of pride.
