29 Questions Homeowners should ask
to avoid common mistakes when selecting a renovator
You have built a beautiful, comfortable life in Forest Hill, and you love your home and neighbourhood. Over the years, your daily routines shift as your kids grow up. One very common realization during this time is that your kitchen just doesn’t meet your needs anymore. Maybe it’s feeling cramped, awkward, or just plain outdated. We can help and focus on designing and building comfortable, worry-free kitchens that make staying in your forever home a joy.
One of the things we hear most as contractors is that simply finding a renovation team you can actually trust is one of the most stressful parts of the entire process. Especially if you’ve had negative experiences before. We have all heard the stories of exploding budgets, noise and dirt everywhere and a rotating cast of strangers in your home. This is where we come in as a dedicated partner. We don’t subcontract; we have all the specialists right under our roof, so we can not only do the job but also be with you through a well-organized, straightforward process.
It all starts by sitting down to talk about what is actually frustrating you in the kitchen. Understanding your daily challenges and vision, we can put together a detailed plan with a guaranteed completion date and a fixed-price contract before the first hammer even swings. Imagine it: No surprises or price creeps, just peace of mind.
When you think about your daily routine from 20 years ago and compare it to now, you’ll see the difference. Your kids might have moved out, or you might enjoy hosting dinner parties; either way, your kitchen has to adapt to how you use it now, not 15 years ago. However, decision fatigue is real, so instead of leaving you alone with cookie-cutter layouts and hundreds of material choices, our designers will work closely with you to understand how you really use your kitchen. This will allow us to help you go through selections and design a space that really supports your life in the here and now.
If your kitchen has an awkward layout, cosmetic updates will not help much. We know that taking your kitchen down to the studs is a big step, and it is perfectly normal to worry about getting your life upended by it. Our goal is to take that management burden off your shoulders entirely. You will have one dedicated project supervisor and our in-house team to handle all the details, from adjusting plumbing and electrical to the final finishing touches and sweeps after we pack up. We take the stress of the mess, so you can live your day.
Nobody likes experiencing the Tupperware avalanche or having to crouch to find something at the back of a dark cupboard. We build custom cabinetry designed around what you actually need to store, giving every pot, pan, and appliance a sensible, easy-to-reach spot. Add to this thoughtful, layered lighting, and you’ll have bright lights for cutting and chopping and a welcoming light for where your family gathers.
If you’ve stood in a showroom with thousands of different options, you know how overwhelming it can be to tell them all apart and imagine how they will look together. Our design cuts through that by guiding you through the entire process so you can focus on what works best for your design. We can tell you which materials will look great but won’t require hours of difficult maintenance every month.
Bringing smart technology into your kitchen should make things easier, not more confusing. Whether it’s smart appliances or lighting, we will integrate them seamlessly into your home so they actually make your life smoother without you having to flip through manuals.
The floors are the unsung heroes of any kitchen. They see a lot of foot traffic and dropped items, so while they have to look great, they also need to be safe to walk on, durable, and easy to clean. Our team has the experience to find the right materials for your needs and match them with the rest of your kitchen, so you are ready for whatever you have to do.
One of the most common mistakes we see is following the latest trend. You deserve a space that is uniquely yours and will stand the test of time. We get that it’s hard to picture how different colours and materials will look together from small samples alone, so our team creates realistic 3D renderings of your Forest Hill home. This will let you take a virtual walk through your future kitchen so you can really see what it will look like before we even start the renovation.
Inviting a renovation crew into your house requires a lot of trust. We respect your space by offering a tried-and-tested, considerate approach that minimizes stress. Here is what you can expect:

Permits and building codes are a language of their own, so we handle them so you don’t have to. With everything under one roof, we handle the engineering drawings, permit applications, and municipal inspections. Whether your design requires removing a wall or updating your electrical panel, we ensure your renovation is safe and fully up to code every time.
Not knowing what comes next is often the most stressful part of remodelling. We have you covered with a clear, systematic approach:

We start by simply listening to what frustrates you about your current layout and understanding what you truly want to achieve.

We share detailed 3D models so you can review and adjust your space with complete confidence, taking the guesswork out of the process.

We ease financial worries by providing a comprehensive, guaranteed contract before work begins.

Our in-house team keeps the site meticulously clean and manages dust while strictly adhering to our agreed-upon schedule.

After the dust settles, you have exclusive access to our handyman services for future small jobs, welcoming you into the SOSNA family.
You don’t need to have all the answers right now to get started. Let’s just have a relaxed, honest talk about what you would like to change to make your home work better for you.

Working with Sosna on our home renovation (Kitchen and main floor renovation) was an incredible experience! Our designer Camila really brought our dreams to live and helped us maximize and vastly improve our space. The construction crew were unbelievably meticulous, dependable and pleasant to work with. I would whole heartedly and strongly recommend working with Sosna for any renovation that may be required in your home.Posted on Luke CarrTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We have loved our home for the last 10 years, but it was time to make some much-needed changes. The layout wasn't maximizing the space, and we found ourselves in one of those 'love it or list it' dilemmas. After researching and meeting with a few renovation companies, we chose to go ahead with Sosna. Their process resonated with us, and we felt they were trustworthy, honest, and reliable. All of that continued to be true through the process and we witnessed their strong commitment to the project and timelines. Starting with the design phase, we had weekly connects with the designers (Chantal and Daniel) that were fun and stress-free. They understood our style and we felt engaged and heard through the process. Our project was fairly big, involving a new kitchen, laundry room, master bath, and adding a new bedroom in our open-to-above great room. Roman and Vitali oversaw the construction phase, keeping us informed along the way. The house was kept tidy and very clean for a project of this size. They were very respectful of our property and the neighborhood. During construction, some minor adjustments were needed to the original plans. However, the team handled these with careful consideration and thoughtful decision-making. They were present on-site daily, often putting in extra hours to stay on track. The quality of their workmanship and attention to detail were impeccable. The results speak for themselves – we couldn't be happier. Sosna's expertise and knowledge shine through in the incredible outcome. Our home feels rejuvenated, reflecting our style and needs, perfectly!Posted on Patrick LuceroTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. After a thorough search and meetings with several general contractors, we selected Sosna for our recent main floor renovation and we had an extremely positive reno experience, right from the first introductory meeting. Care, commitment and courtesy characterized our interaction with each team member, from office staff to site crew and tradesmen and company owner. Indeed, Sosna is a general contractor you can count on to manage the whole process well and deliver great quality workmanship on time and on budget. Our project consisted in renovating the main floor and creating an open concept by removing a structural wall. We lived in the house and worked from home during the 3 months construction period. The team was very punctual and ensured disturbances were kept to a minimum, keeping us updated on what is going to happen next day and overall status. Everyone coming to the job site showed respect and care for us and for our entire property. The work area was separated with plastic walls from the rest of the house and floor protections were laid out to reduce construction debris and dust; the job site was always thoroughly cleaned at the end of the day. The designer, Olga, really understood who we are and what we want to achieve, putting together the design and documenting every detail. We loved that she gave us her honest opinion on our wants, and that she balanced our budget with the quality of selected materials. Her design made every inch of our kitchen beautiful and most importantly, very functional! Gus (site lead) and Davit (site supervisor) were the best you could ask for: skillful, meticulous, finding creative solutions and finishing the smallest details to perfection. They closely worked with every assigned crew member and trade person to ensure the level of workmanship and attention to detail was kept at the highest level. Gus was happy to share with us better ways to maintain our house and the newly introduced finishes. We became so close and appreciated his experience so much that he was the first to call, one late Friday evening, about a heater pipe burst, not related to the reno. Gus answered our call and kindly walked us though the temporary mending process, then arranged for the additional work to be done by the plumber ASAP. We saw first-hand the care and pride he put in his work, and the patience with us; we will be forever thankful. Roman (project manager) visited the site often and intervened as needed to ensure the few issues that came up during construction were quickly resolved to our satisfaction. Even though we were in the final days of detailing when we mentioned we weren't 100% in love with the way the mudroom sink looked, Roman and Gus discussed an alternate solution and moved the sink (less than 1”!) and redid the back wall. It looks perfect! We’ve been enjoying our “new” 80s house for little over 2 months and we love it each day more and more. We highly recommend Sosna to anyone who might want to remodel their home.Posted on Simona Duka-KispalTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The team at Sosna transformed our house with skill and efficiency. They really took time to understand our needs and are very attentive to details. Although the price is above market average, the services and quality of work worth every penny. As busy working professionals, we only made occasional visit to the contraction site. The team was always on schedule and actively communicated with us during the construction. The outcome is amazing. Special thanks to Chantal, Daniel, Leo and Gus, they truly make this a smooth experience.Posted on J CaiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We just want to add to our first review from 2019.@Johnny Cai It has been over 4 years since our renovation! We were so happy with it then and are still loving it now. It was a great experience working with Sonsa. We recently had an issue with our kitchen sink. We reach out to Andrei and within 24 hours someone was at our house to fix it. The level of service is above and beyond. The commitment to their customers is outstanding. We recommend Sosna to all our friends and family! Thank you Tracey & JohnPosted on tracey caivanoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. In 2022, my wife and I decided to finally take the plug and totally renovate our home. Sosna was the fourth company we met with and I can honestly say "save the best for last", is referring to Adrei and his amazing team. To this day my wife and I couldn't be happier with the transformation of our home, and with the relationship we gained with Andrei and his team. Everyone who walked into our home during the renovation were professional and very respectful of our home. We would like to especially thank, Chantal (Designer), Loe ( project manager) and Sergiy (supervisor) you guys truly made the renovation a wonderful experience. Andrei thank you again, and your wonderful team.Posted on Perry ChristopoulosTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I wish to say first that I rarely give anyone a 5 star rating. In this case we have used Sosna Inc. to design and renovate our master bedroom bathroom; and ended up with a perfect result. Not only is it beautiful to look at; but cost stayed within budget. I also want to add that the individuals who worked on the project were easy to talk to. They responded well if you asked them to something different/extra. It was magical how they left for the day, and made sure that everything was cleaned up (as if no one had worked there. I can assure you that on any future projects, I will gladly use Sosna again.Posted on Marv WainbergTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Sosna renovated my kitchen and bathrooms a few years ago and my experience was the best. I recommended a friend who also decided to hire them for the renovations in their house. Not only Sosna gave me a voucher for the Keg but they also gave me a handyman for the day. Boris came and helped me fix a lot of things around the house. Boris is the best handyman ever. Once you hire Sosna services you become part of their family. Thank you Sosna for making me a happy customer and member of your family!Posted on Paulina RoitmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. 6 years later and our renovation still looks awesome! I've referred multiple friends to speak with Andrei and his team and feel confident in the Sosna team to deliver the highest quality. If we had to do it again, we'd sign up with Sosna in a heartbeat. Keep it up!Posted on B P

A complete kitchen remodel in Forest Hill represents a significant investment in your forever home. Because sticking to a budget is often a major concern, we provide a firm, fixed-price contract once the detailed design is finalized. This eliminates unexpected costs and gives you complete peace of mind.
We strictly adhere to our guaranteed start and finish dates. To achieve this, we plan everything down to the last detail during the design phase, including ordering materials. By ensuring everything is ready before we remove a single cabinet, we avoid the stressful delays that are unfortunately so common in the renovation industry.
If your plans include changing the structure, moving plumbing, or updating electrical work, you will need a permit. We handle this entire step for you, including the engineering drawings and city inspections, so you can rest easy knowing everything is handled professionally and safely.
Look for a team that focuses on your comfort, communication, and peace of mind. A reliable partner should have an established track record, their own in-house crew, so you never have to guess who is in your home each day, and a firm commitment to guaranteed pricing and strict, reliable schedules.
While a beautiful new kitchen certainly helps with resale value, most of the homeowners we partner with in Forest Hill are not planning to move anytime soon. They love their neighbourhood and have spent the last 15 or 20 years putting down roots. They are renovating to create a functional, lasting home that perfectly suits their new phase of life.
The true value comes from solving the complex layout issues and the little things that frustrate you every day. Improving the flow of the room, installing sturdy custom cabinets, choosing low-maintenance countertops, and adding thoughtful lighting will make your daily routines much smoother, ensuring your kitchen serves you beautifully for the long haul.
Let’s connect and make your vision a reality! Our team is dedicated to understanding your unique needs and providing personalized renovation solutions that align with your vision and budget.
